Hernando Parks & Recreation Department Receives Two Grants
from
National Recreation and Parks Association
The Hernando Parks & Recreation has
received two grants from National Recreation and Park Association. One from the
National Alliance for the Development of Archery (NADA) and another from Golf
Course Builders Association of America (GCBAA) to help the parks department
start new programs.
Hernando Parks & Recreation
Department is one of 100 agencies selected as an After School Archery Program
(ASAP) grantee. A $500 grant will enable
Hernando to effectively increase participation in archery and create
sustainable programming for the youth in the community.
The grant funds will be used to
purchase archery equipment and program resources and materials, as well as
provide staff training, relevant to the After School Archery program. The
archery program, which will start as an after school activity, will offer a
beginner class for kids ages 8 to 14.
“The Golf Course Builders Association
of American are thrilled that Hernando Parks & Recreation is taking part in
a national initiative to increase participation in golf among the youth in Hernando”
said Resa Kierstein of NRPA.
Hernando is one of 125 agencies
selected to take a leadership role and ensure that junior golf is available to
all members of the community. The parks
department has received an equipment package containing (10) sets of junior
golf clubs, programming material, bag tags, and skills cards. The clubs will be used for teaching children
ages 7 to 12.
